Meet Our Team
Every member of our team enjoys meeting new patients and we pride ourselves on our ability to build relationships. With this approach the team works together to create a different patient experience.
On your first visit one of our treatment coordinators will invite you for a chat in a non-clinical room to get to know you and begin to listen to your needs.
Our treatment coordinators Katie and Naomi work closely with the clinical team in the treatment planning process to make sure your needs and concerns are heard. They will discuss the objectives and options at length with you and your clinicians so that you can make an informed decision. Read more
We feel it’s important that we continue to spend time with longstanding patients too, who may have had treatment plans and then come back to see us regularly. We like to check in and see how our patients are doing, so our job as we see it isn’t purely clinical.
The feel of the clinic and your experience as a patient is largely down to our gifted business manager Nikki, who is always interested in hearing feedback from patients.

Reception and Admin
Mandy is one of the reasons Portmore is different, and why dental care here feels better. She isn’t just a receptionist, she creates a better experience for our patients.
It will probably be Mandy that you see or speak to first — her role is to meet and great patients, make sure they feel comfortable and know what to expect in their appointment. Her favourite thing is seeing patients come through a long treatment plan successfully, and being thanked for her encouragement and support.
Mandy qualified as a dental nurse from Eastman Dental Hospital in 1991 and spent many years working in the role, and she is now focusing on the customer service side of dentistry, where she’s passionate about making a difference.
Because she understands the clinical side of dentistry she is unflappable and calm in a crisis. The phrase she most often uses is “it’s my pleasure”, which sums her up. She’s always there to provide our patients with exceptional service.
Outside work she enjoys socialising with family and friends and refurbishing old properties.

Dr Andre Von BackstromMBChB PPD
Sedationist - GMC No. 3528718
Andre is a medical doctor who qualified in 1988 at the University of Pretoria. He has a diploma in sedation and pain control and was clinical assistant anaesthetist at the Royal Berkshire Hospital until 2001.
He has been involved in dental anaesthesia and sedation since 1991 and has carried out in excess of 50,000 general anaesthetics and sedations. Andre’s presence at Portmore is crucial to our patient journey, and he is invaluable for anxious patients undergoing lengthy procedures such as implants for missing teeth.
Conscious sedation is appropriate for dentistry because even with a gentle approach there are times when nerves present too much of an obstacle for patients to overcome. It’s a safe way to get patients relaxed and it lowers the blood pressure and takes away the gag reflex.
Patients can respond to commands and while they might drift off to sleep, it’s a sleep they can come round from, so it’s a very safe and gentle procedure.
Andre has been providing facial cosmetic treatments since 2000 and also works at the Court House Clinic in Wimpole Street, which featured in 10 Years Younger on Channel 4.
His long experience in this area is valuable for Portmore patients who are interested in having a consultation to discuss lines and wrinkles, where Andre can prescribe and carry out anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers and other skin treatments with consummate skill, and predictably perfect results.
